This paper shows an overview of the materials
needed to design a water level controller in our homes.
INTRODUCTION
1.1 BACKGROUND OF STUDY
Water is essential to life as far back as the
creation of man, the only source of water were the streams and rivers, later on
water was gotten from the ground after digging up to about fifteen feet
or more which is called the well water system.
Well water is an excavation or structure created
in the ground by digging, driving, boring or drilling to access water
underground.
The well water is drawn by an electric
submersible pump or a mechanical pump (e.g. from a water-pumping windmill). it
can also be drawn up using containers, such as buckets that are raised
mechanically or by hand. Although not essential, a storage tank with a pressure
of 40-60psi is usually added to the system (after the pump), so the pump does
not need to operate constantly.
Wells can vary greatly in depth, water volume
and water quality. Well water typically contains more minerals in solution than
surface water and may require treatment to soften the water
by removing minerals such as arsenic, iron and
manganese.
Clean water is one of the most important needs
of our bodies. It is a sad fact that something as essential as clean drinking
water is no longer free to humans. Unsafe water is not just a third world
problem. In fact safe drinking water is very expensive, especially in
industrially developing countries, Such as Nigeria. According to World Bank
Report inadequate sanitation and clean water provision remain in terms of the
scale of human suffering the most serious of all environmental problems (World
Bank 1992).
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF
THE PROJECT
The aims and objectives of this project were to;
Minimize the waste of water
Save time
Ensure constant flow of water round the clock
Prevent the pumping machine from over working
To save the user the stress of switching the
pumping machine ON and OFF
Keep the environment clean and dry and also to
ensure the ecological protection .
JUSTIFICATION OF THE
STUDY
The automatic water level controller came into
existence as a result of human error and inconsistence that is associated with
manual re-operated water pumping machine. This is because it takes time for an
individual who is manually operating the water pumping machine to turn OFF the
pumping machine and this may cause water spillage and also at times the
individual might not know that the water has drop so low until the tank is
completely empty. This was the problems that lead to the development of the
automatic water level controller. Win penny acknowledged this case when he
argued that the
failure to treat water as a scarce commodity
lies at the heart of the problem. (Winpenny1992). He therefore called for water
policy planning that is comprehensive.
1.4 SCOPE OF
THE WORK
The purpose of this work is to ease the stress
of the users/operator switching the pumping machine ON and OFF and also save
water and the pumping machine from over working.
